Facts about Chlorine...

“Chlorine is a respirator irritant. The gas irritates the mucus membranes and the liquid burns the skin. As little as 3.5 ppm can be detected as an odor, and 1000 ppm is likely to be fatal after a few deep breaths. In fact, chlorine was used as a war gas in 1915!”

Chlorine is a naturally occurring substance. Its manipulation and use in forming artificial chemical products has had devastating effects on the environment which we are only now beginning to understand.

In its various artificial forms, chlorine plays a major role in the most pressing environmental problems which we face today; depletion of the ozone layer, global warming and acid rain. The pollution caused by its widespread use has been linked to a variety of serious health effects; poisonings have occurred in the chlorine industry since its inception and chlorine compounds have accumulated in the bodyfat of animals and humans.

Chlorine can exist safely, in the form of common salt (sodium chloride), for example, but the process of splitting common salt into caustic soda and chlorine gas makes it become dangerously toxic. www.mcspotlight.org/media/reports/wenchlorine.html

Pool Chlorine Implicated In Childhood Asthma

The chlorine used to disinfect indoor pools may be implicated in the surge of child-hood asthma in developed countries, suggests research in Occupational & Environmental Medicine. Trichloramine, or nitrogen trichloride, a highly concentrated volatile by-product of chlorination, that is readily inhaled and generated during contact between chlorine and organic matter such as urine or sweat, seems to be the culprit. Relaxing in Filth: What Your Whirlpool Tub May Be Hiding

Few people realize when they fill a whirlpool bath, sit down for a soak, and lean back to breathe in the warm air, they are exposing themselves to a variety of potentially fatal bacteria and fungi. While resting in circling warm water that caresses their skin, they breathe in deeply, allowing legionella spores to reach deeply into their lungs. They stretch slowly, unwittingly allowing fecal matter, skin, and other debris left behind from the previous bather to envelope them slowly as they dip their head under the water. Those who have made this discovery are now in litigation with three of the US's largest whirlpool manufacturers. Lawsuits are currently pending against Jacuzzi, Inc., Kohler Co., and Lasco Bathware, Inc. because consumer complaints went unheard about "yellowish sludge," "greenish-black gunk," and "black, flimy debris," coming from piping of their tubs. Woman suing nail business for $1 million

By CINDY CLAYTON

A 35-year-old mother of two believes a nail salon's footbath infected her and left her with permanent scars. Open sores on her legs appeared three weeks after her use of the salon's pedicure spa. A biopsy showed that she was infected with a Mycobacterium (from the Tuberculosis family). According to a news report, a handful of similar cases have been reported in Virginia and more than 100 women previously contracted a similar infection from footbaths in a California nail salon.
